Berkshire are pleased to announce the appointment of Andy Knapper (Tilehurst) as the Home Counties, Balcomb Trophy and Middleton Cup Manager for 2027 and 2028.
Andy brings a weath of experience to the role having himself represented Berkshire for over 25 years. He has played in the Middleton Cup 79 times, more recently as Captain, and enjoyed success at County, National and International level.
In his Application Andy states:
“Throughout my career I have always believed that representing Berkshire is a privilege. I have experienced the highs of national success, represented England around the world, and competed alongside many outstanding players. Those experiences have taught me the importance of preparation, communication, team culture and professionalism, and I believe I can use those experiences to help our county teams continue to compete successfully.
Away from the green, I have developed extensive management experience through my role as Club Manager of Whiteknights Indoor Bowls Club, where I oversee the day-to-day operation of one of England’s largest indoor bowls clubs. This role has strengthened my leadership, organisational and communication skills and has given me considerable experience working with committees, volunteers, staff, and players from all backgrounds.
Over many years I have also served Berkshire bowls as a Middleton Cup Captain, Berkshire Under-25 Assistant Manager, County selector, while continuing to support the development and promotion of bowls across the county.
If appointed, my aim would be to create a positive, professional, and inclusive environment where players are fully prepared, communication is clear, and every member of the squad is proud to represent Berkshire. I would work closely with a support team and county officers to ensure the Middleton Cup, Home Counties League and Balcomb squads are organised, united and capable of achieving continued success.
I believe my combination of elite playing experience, leadership, organisational ability, and passion for Berkshire bowls makes me well suited to this position.”
